The Allston neighborhood of Boston is known for its young, energetic vibe, yet none of the apartment buildings in the area reflected this vibrant spirit. When real estate development company Mount Vernon approached Visual Dialogue as a creative partner for a new property, both understood that design plays a big role in where a person decides to live.

Building on the contemporary loft-style architecture by PCA, Visual Dialogue was tasked with capturing Allston’s artistic side in fresh and unexpected ways throughout the new building. The result of this collaboration was Arthaus: a property imbued with creative energy at every turn.

Original, large-scale installations throughout the building, designed by Visual Dialogue and produced by local artist Andrew Bablo, make Arthaus a true work of art. Nowhere was off-limits for visual expression—from stripes over the self-portrait of neighborhood namesake Washington Allston to a grid of multicolored paint cans in the kitchen to pop art brushstrokes in the hallways to an anamorphic message painted on the top floor stairwell.

Visual Dialogue brought in interior designers Superette to extend the vision to every touchpoint, creating a “refined artist loft” with its casual vibe and pops of color. Beyond the design, the commitment to art and artists includes reserving a number of affordable units for working artists and a ground-floor gallery space for the non-profit Unbound Visual Arts.
